*4/12 Stars! Top Pick!*

Revenge can be sweet, smart, sexy and make for a fast-paced, non-stop read when Archer’s the storyteller. Creating heroes to die for and empowered women and bringing them together in powerful action/adventures with depth of emotion and sensuality is her forte. To readers’ pleasure, she brings an amazing cast of characters, a strong plot and romance to the first in her Nemesis, Unlimited series.

Sexy sneak peek of Sinner’s Heart

With SINNER’S HEART coming out in less than a week, I thought I’d give everyone a sneak peak that’s pretty spicy. It’s still relatively SFW, because I don’t want anyone to miss a moment, even if they’re at work or out in public.

Without further ado…

“Lie down.”  His throat was revealed as his neckcloth joined the coat upon the floor.  The angry line of his scar ran beside the fast beat of his pulse.

Using more concentration, she stretched out on the bed.  It felt odd, mimicking of a quotidian action.  How long had it been since she had lain upon a bed—both for sleep and for sex?  Her memories were both too vivid and shrouded in lost time.

His gaze still holding hers, Bram pulled off his boots.  The movement tugged his fine shirt tight along his shoulders, his arms, the supple doeskin of his breeches snug along his thighs and the thick outline of his arousal.

He prowled to the bed, then stretched out long beside her.  The ropes beneath the mattress creaked with his weight.  But they held.

Propping himself up on his elbow, he stared down at her.  “Take off your tunic.”

She did not move, another instinctive fighting of command.  Yet deliberate acquiescence took nothing from her.  She was unbroken, even in obedience.

She worked the clasps at her shoulders.  Yet they grasped at nothing.  The tunic was just as formless as she, and part of her, as well.  “I can’t.”

“Doesn’t matter.  That’s not where I would start.  No,” he murmured, half to himself, “the first thing I would do is take those ornaments from your hair.  I’d unpin them, and then I’d coil a lock of your hair around my finger.  It must feel like coarse silk, your hair.  Heavy, soft.  And it has a fragrance.  Spice and temple smoke.  I’d breathe that in, touching only your hair, watching it move as it falls over your shoulders.”

“I used to scent my bathwater with cassia,” she whispered.

A corner of his mouth tilted.  “Ah, I was right.  Spice.  But I’d touch your hair for only so long before I’d need to feel your skin.  Here, and here.”  He moved his finger to right beneath her ear, at the juncture of her neck, then down her throat to tarry at the hollow between her collarbones.  “Like velvet, your skin, and warm.”

She could not feel his touch, yet his words stroked her, drawing forth silken ribbons of sensation.  It stunned her.  She could not feel, and yet she did.

“I’d feel the beat of your heart,” he said, relentless.  “You’d respond to me.  That wouldn’t be enough, though.  I’d want your mouth.  To feel it against mine.  To taste you.  I’d start slowly, just little sips, the brush of my mouth against yours.  How silky your lips are, so full and ripe.  Your lips are made for kissing—did you know?  You might think they were for shaping the words for spells, or issuing commands to your trembling underlings, and they do those things very well, but their true purpose is in kissing me.  I’d show you that.  I’d kiss you deeper.  You’d taste of spice, too.”  He licked his lips and gave a small hum of pleasure.

By the gods, she could almost feel his kiss.

“There was a time when I loved nothing more than kissing,” he continued, almost conversational but for the depth of his voice and the blue fire in his eyes.  “Could do it for hours, and be satisfied.  Perhaps I’ll do that with you.  Kiss you until you melt in my mouth and I drink you in.”  His nostrils flared.  “Another time.  This kiss is a prelude.  I’d take my lips from yours and then I’d run them down your neck.  I’d bite you there, too.  My teeth just here.”  He circled the convergence of her neck and shoulder.  “Hard enough to leave a mark, so anyone who saw you would know exactly what happened.  They’d know that I bit you like a wolf claiming his mate.  The mighty priestess marked.  By me.”

An involuntary moan crept up her throat.  She could well imagine it—the gleaming flare of pleasure and pain, his hot breath upon her, the red indentations left by his teeth.  His audacious, animalistic marking.

“What if I threatened to turn you into an actual wolf?” she breathed.  “Transform you into a beast?  Would you be so impudent?”

He grinned savagely.  “I’d bite you harder.  Until you give in.”

“I never submit.”

SINNER’S HEART comes out April 2.

Sinner's Heart small

DEVIL’S KISS is Free through 3/25!

SINNER’S HEART, the final book in the Hellraisers series, comes out April 2, so this is a great time to see where it all begins…

A Handsome Devil

1762. James Sherbourne, Earl of Whitney, is a gambling man. Not for the money. But for the thrill, the danger—and the company: Whit has become one of the infamous Hellraisers, losing himself in the chase for adventure and pleasure with his four closest friends.

Which was how Whit found himself in a gypsy encampment, betting against a lovely Romani girl. Zora Grey’s smoky voice and sharp tongue entrance Whit nearly as much as her clever hands—watching them handle cards inspires thoughts of another kind…

Zora can’t explain her attraction to the careless blue-eyed Whit. She also can’t stop him and his Hellraisers from a fiendish curse: the power to grant their own hearts’ desires, to chase their pleasures from the merely debauched to the truly diabolical. And if Zora can’t save Whit, she still has to escape him. . .

RT Book Reviews gives Sinner’s Heart Four Stars!

“This is the third and final book in Archer’s Hellraisers series, but readers will have no problem jumping right in. Sinner’s Heart is a slow burn of a love story, but when the passion ignites, there is no putting out the flames. With all the human flaws of greed, lust and other sins, the devil has plenty to play with. The series is an interesting allegory about temptation and its consequences. If this is your first encounter with the Hellraisers, you will definitely want to go back and meet the others. Sexy, stylish, intelligent fiction at its best.”

SINNER’S HEART comes out in print and digital formats on April 2. Pre-order your copy today!

Dear Hollywood:

Please stop:

  • Killing naked ladies and/or ladies who like sex
  • Killing off the secondary characters who aren’t white
  • Making the protagonist of every film, regardless of setting, a white male
  • Making the protagonist of every romantic comedy a heterosexual, thin white woman
  • Making couples the same race
  • Failing to recognize that more than half the population in the United States is female
  • Casting white actors in film adaptations where the original characters are not white
  • Attributing films that don’t do well to the notion that film is “female-centric” or starred someone who isn’t white; Battleship did terribly, yet no one attributed its failure to Liam Neeson
  • Having ensemble casts in action films where there is one woman as part of the group and one person who isn’t white
  • Casting fantasy films with all white actors, unless they come from the “East”
  • Largely ignoring the existence of gay characters entirely, except if they provide comedic relief and/or dispense sage advice, all without ever being physically demonstrative with their partner
  • Giving us the same tired shit

No love,

(And this Zoe, too)

The Next Big Thing

I’ve been tagged by the beautiful and talented Rebekah Weatherspoon to participate in the blog hop known as The Next Big Thing, wherein authors discuss their latest works in progress.

So, without further ado, here we go…

-What is the working title of your book?

It’s for the Ether Chronicles, the steampunk romance series that I’m writing with my husband, Nico Rosso. All my books in this series have SKIES OF ____ in their title, but I’m not sure yet what the skies are made of in this one. 🙂

-Where did the idea come from for the book?

The very first idea for the book came from my former upstairs neighbors’ dog, who was this beautiful hunting dog that made a tremendous racket as she galloped around their apartment. Nico and I started imagining this very Gothic scenario where a woman is out on the moors and they’re met by this rather unruly dog, and then she meets its unruly (and sexy) owner. Well, due to sundry plot circumstances, the dog had to be dropped, but the same Gothic meeting and feel remained.

-What genre does your book fall under?

Steampunk romance.

-Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

That’s a very good question. The heroine is half East Indian, half English. Parminder Nagra might be a good choice.

As for the hero, he’s got a wild appearance (for reasons I don’t want to spoil), which includes long hair and a thick beard. The model Yiorgos Karavas would fit the bill. But my hero, Fletcher, is a Man O’ War, so just imagine this fellow, but thickly muscled and with a metal plate grafted onto his left shoulder. There may also be tattoos. 😉

-What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

At the edge of the inhabited world, two wounded souls find an unexpected attraction and a hidden danger.

-What is the longer synopsis of your book?

I’m so worried about giving away spoilers! Inventor Kalindi MacNeil has a good reason to want to be apart from the world for a while.  But the last person she expects to find on a deserted island is Captain Fletcher Adams, a technologically-enhanced Man O’ War. Both Fletcher and Kali have their secrets, yet they’re drawn to each other despite their continued vows to stay away. The attraction between them is almost as unexpected as the danger that soon finds its way to their hidden island. In order to combat a new enemy, will they be willing to rejoin the world? And will their feelings for each other protect or hurt them when it’s time to go to battle?

-Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

The book will be published by Avon Impulse, and I do have representation.

-How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Still working on it!

-Who or what inspired you to write this book?

See the above question about where the idea came from.  I’m loving this steampunk world, so to create a Gothic steampunk, with all its atmosphere and mystery, really intrigued me.

-What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

This book is the fifth book in the Ether Chronicles, which Nico and I have created and co-written together. He writes all the steampunk Westerns, and I write the steampunk everywhere else. 😉  My steampunk books always feature Man O’ Wars, which are men who have been enhanced by technology to be stronger and faster than normal men. Plus, this technology enables them to power and fly airships, so they’re very important in the ongoing Mechanized War.

Something you’ll find in my steampunk books (and hopefully all of my work) are kick-ass heroines. They don’t scream, faint, or unwittingly get themselves into trouble. They’re smart, capable women who hold their own against some very powerful heroes.

Right now, SKIES OF ____ (Ether Chronicles #5) is scheduled to be released July 2013.

You can find out more about the Ether Chronicles here.

Thanks for stopping by!
